[시사뉴스 정윤철 기자]  경남대학교는 8일 오전 10시 40분 본관 대회의실에서 ‘제12대 총장 박재규 박사 취임식’을 거행했다.

경남대의 상징인 ‘한마(汗馬)’처럼 미래를 향해 쉼 없이 도약할 대학의 새로운 출발을 기념하는 이번 취임식에는 외부 인사 초청 없이 교수, 학생, 동문 등 한마가족 200여 명이 참석한 가운데 총장 선임 경과 보고 및 약력 소개, 임명패 수여, 취임사, 축하 영상, 교수중창단 축가 등 다채롭고 성대하게 열렸다.

경남대 박재규 총장은 취임사를 통해 “오늘 제12대 총장 취임식을 축하하기 위해 참석해주신 한마가족 여러분께 진심으로 감사드린다”며 “경남대는 1946년 개교 이래 77년 동안 변화와 창조적 혁신으로 지역대학이라는 한계를 넘어 드넓은 세계와 교류하는 명문사학으로 성장해왔다”라고 말했다.

이어 “경남대는 학령인구 감소 등 대학이 마주한 다양한 위기 속에서도 경남 지역 유일 미래형자동차 기술융합 혁신인재양성사업 선정 등 여러 대형국책사업의 주관기관이 되는 눈부신 성과를 이룩해오고 있다”며 “대학교육 혁신을 선도하고 지역 산학협력의 중추적인 역할을 수행할 수 있었던 것은 남다른 애교심과 열정으로 대학발전에 기여해 오신 한마가족 여러분과 대학을 응원해주신 지역민 여러분들의 헌신적 노고 덕분에 가능했다”라고 말했다.

특히 박재규 총장은 “한국 사회가 당면한 고등교육 혁신의 절박함과 지역 대학이 겪는 냉혹한 생존 위협을 그 누구보다 실감하고 있다”면서 ▲‘고객 혹은 소비자 지향의 대학’ ▲시대적·사회적 요구에 부응하는 미래형 교육에 부응하는 ‘미래형 교육콘텐츠 선도 대학’ ▲탈 중앙집중화를 통한 ‘분산형 책임경영제의 대학’ ▲지역 발전과 지역민 삶의 질 향상에 기여하는 ‘지역 친화형 대학’ 등 4개의 ‘창조적 혁신 방향’을 제안했다.

마지막으로 “대학은 학생, 교수, 지역사회가 함께 어우러지는 창조적 교육 생태계이자 하나의 상생 공동체이기에 늘 자율성과 다양성을 존중하는 교육조직이 되어 ‘한마인의 자긍심이 넘치는 대학’, ‘지역이 사랑하는 대학’을 실현하는 경남대학교 개교 100년을 향한 새로운 도약을 시작할 것”이라고 강조했다.

한편, 새 총장의 임기는 2023년 2월 8일부터 2027년 2월 7일까지 4년간이다.

"I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Hanma family for attending the inauguration of the 12th president today," said Park Jae-gyu, president of Gyeongnam National University, in his inaugural speech. "For 77 years since its opening in 1946, Gyeongnam National University has grown into a prestigious historiography that interacts with the vast world beyond the limits of a local university through change and creative innovation," he said.

"Despite various crises facing universities, such as the decline in the school-age population, Gyeongnam National University has made remarkable achievements in becoming the host institution for several large-scale national projects, including being selected as the only university in the Gyeongnam region for the Future Automotive Technology Convergence Innovation Talent Training Project." "Leading innovation in higher education and playing a pivotal role in regional industry-academia cooperation has been possible thanks to the dedicated efforts of the Hanma family, who have contributed to the development of the university with great affection and passion, and the local people who have supported the university."

"I am more than anyone else aware of the urgent need for innovation in higher education faced by Korean society and the severe survival threats faced by local universities," Park said, proposing four "creative innovation directions," including a "customer or consumer-oriented university," a "future education content leading university" that responds to future education that meets contemporary and social needs, a "decentralized accountability management system university" through decentralization, and a "community-friendly university" that contributes to regional development and improves the quality of life of local people.

Finally, he emphasized, "As a university is a creative educational ecosystem and a shared community where students, professors, and the local community work together, we will always be an educational organization that respects autonomy and diversity, and we will start a new leap toward the 100th anniversary of the opening of Gyeongnam National University to realize 'a university full of pride in Hanmain' and 'a university loved by the local community.'"

Meanwhile, the new president will serve a four-year term from February 8, 2023 to February 7, 2027.
