[시사뉴스 정윤철 기자] 울산지역 주력산업인 조선해양산업의 새로운 성장동력을 창출하게 될 ‘자율운항선박 성능실증센터’가 준공돼 본격적인 운영에 들어간다.
울산시는 산업통상자원부 및 해양수산부와 공동으로 11월 3일 오후 3시 동구 일산동 고늘지구에서 ‘자율운항선박 성능실증센터 준공식’을 개최한다고 밝혔다.
준공식은 김두겸 울산시장, 김기환 시의회 의장, 권명호 국회의원, 산업통상자원부와 해양수산부 관계자, 선박해양플랜트연구소 김부기 소장 등 100여 명이 참석한 가운데 경과보고, 자율운항선박 해상 성능시험선 소개, 시설 관람 등으로 진행된다.
이날 준공되는 자율운항선박 성능실증센터는 산업통상자원부와 해양수산부가 공동 추진하는 자율운항선박 기술개발사업의 실증을 위해 건립됐다.
총사업비 219억 원이 투입됐으며 지난해 11월 착공에 들어가 동구 일산동 35번지 일원 부지면적 9,128㎡에 건축연면적 1,278㎡, 지하 1층, 지상 3층 규모로 올해 9월 준공됐다.
지상 1층에는 모의실험(시뮬레이션) 기반 성능시험(테스트베드)실, 지상 2층에는 빅데이터 서버실, 지상 3층에는 디지털복제(디지털트윈) 브릿지엔진* 점검(모니터링)실과 해상 시운전 통합관제실 등이 구축됐다.
자율운항선박 성능실증센터 준공에 따라 자율운항선박 핵심기술을 개발·시험·평가 및 검증할 수 있는 환경과 기반이 마련됐다. 또 모의실험(시뮬레이션) 기반 검증체계, 실해역 시험체계를 활용한 자율운항선박 기술 성능검증과 지능형 항해 시스템, 기관 자동화 시스템 등의 실증으로 축적된 시운전, 운항, 선박 성능 등에 대한 자료를 해운사, 조선소, 조선기자재 업체 등에 제공할 수 있게 됐다.
특히, 조선해양산업의 새로운 성장동력 창출과 차세대 미래선박 연구 거점 역할은 물론 산업 생태계 조성으로 미래시장 주도권 선점과 울산시 주력산업인 조선해양산업의 경쟁력 강화가 기대된다.
김두겸 울산시장은 “자율운항선박 성능실증센터의 준공은 자율운항선박 기술 성능검증을 위한 세계 최초의 육·해상 자율운항선박 성능시험장 확보라는 의미뿐만 아니라, 미래 선박시장 주도권 확보를 위한 경쟁의 초석을 다졌다는데 더 큰 의미가 있다.”며 “현재 추진 중인 사업과 더불어 상승(시너지) 효과가 나도록 최선을 다하겠다.”라고 말했다.
한편 ‘자율운항선박 해상 성능시험선’은 선체길이 25m, 폭 5.4m, 60톤급에 15명이 탑승할 수 있다. 자율운항선박 기술개발사업에서 개발되는 각종 장비와 체계(시스템) 등을 탑재해 실해역 시험을 통해 평가·검증을 수행하고 향후 개발될 다양한 첨단 조선해양기자재의 성능 검증 등에도 활용된다.

Ulsan City announced that it will hold a "self-operating ship performance demonstration center completion ceremony" at 3 p.m. on November 3 in the Goneul district in Ilsan-dong, Dong-gu, in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.
The completion ceremony will be attended by more than 100 people, including Ulsan Mayor Kim Doo-kyum, City Council Chairman Kim Ki-hwan, National Assemblyman Kwon Myung-ho, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, and Kim Boo-ki, director of the Ship and Marine Plant Research Institute.
The self-driving ship performance demonstration center, which will be completed on the same day, was built to demonstrate the self-driving ship technology development project jointly promoted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.
A total of 21.9 billion won was invested in the project, and construction began in November last year, and it was completed in September this year with a total floor area of 9,128㎡ in Ilsan-dong, Dong-gu, 1,278㎡, one basement floor, and three ground floors.
On the first floor of the ground, a simulation-based performance test (test bed) room, a big data server room on the second floor, a digital replication (digital twin) bridge engine* inspection room, and a marine trial integrated control room were built on the third floor.
With the completion of the self-driving ship performance demonstration center, the environment and foundation for developing, testing, evaluating, and verifying core technologies of autonomous ships have been laid. It will also be able to provide data on the accumulated test operation, operation and shipbuilding performance to shipping companies, shipyards, and shipbuilding equipment companies through demonstration of autonomous ship technology performance and intelligent navigation systems and institutional automation systems.
In particular, it is expected to preoccupy the future market and strengthen the competitiveness of the shipbuilding and marine industries, the flagship industry of Ulsan, by creating an industrial ecosystem as well as creating a new growth engine for the shipbuilding and marine industries.
Ulsan Mayor Kim Doo-kyum said, "The completion of the autonomous ship performance demonstration center not only means securing the world's first land and sea autonomous ship performance test site to verify the performance of autonomous ships, but also laying the foundation for competition to secure leadership in the future ship market."
Meanwhile, the "Autonomous Operation Ship Marine Performance Test Ship" can accommodate 15 people on a 25-meter-long, 5.4-meter-wide, and 60-ton class. It will be used for evaluation and verification through real-sea tests and performance verification of various advanced shipbuilding and marine equipment to be developed in the future by installing various equipment and systems (systems) developed in autonomous ship technology development project.
